The first game of the season confirmed Kavallieri as a powerhouse of Maltese handball. Surely they will challenge for all the major titles this year.

Aloysians had a new look this season whereby they lost two key players and signed three new ones and this proved to be a major setback in their aim to win the Super Cup.

This game was a very tactical one, mostly based on defensive play. However, the game was controlled by Kavallieri who, by the end of the first half, already had a five goal lead.

Their six flat aggressive defence proved difficult to penetrate while, on the other hand, the 3/2/1 defence adopted by Aloysians left ample spaces on the wings from where Kavallieri were finding it easy to score goals.

The second half was a more balanced one with Aloysians playing a more cautious defence and closing the gap to just a goal difference. In the last few minutes of the game, Aloysians rushed to get the win but all proved futile as Kavallieri were finding it easy to score, achieving a final score of 19-15.

Being their 10th year as a club, La Salle Vitality expected much more from this game and hopes to win as many titles as possible this year are already being threathened.

One would imagine that the addition of two national team players would make the team much stronger: however the strength of Aloysians Express girls proved that little better in the end.

The game was balanced through all the hour played with Aloysians having more options in attack. La Salle tried to keep Brenda Vassallo at bay with one on one defence and at the same time using their effective fast breaks but Aloysians were prepared for this and they made the best out of every attack.

The goalkeepers of both teams had unconvincing starting minutes in goal but overall had a say in keeping such a low final score.

Even though it was a disappointing start for La Salle Vitality’s season, they surely have the talent to make up during the rest of the season
