An MLP Government will launch breast screening programme for women at risk

A Labour government will launch a breast screening programme for women who have a greater risk of developing breast cancer, Labour leader Alfred Sant said during a meeting with Ingrid Kossler, president of the European Coalition for Breast Care.

He said that the MLP is committed towards working to create more awareness about the condition, adding that Labour MP Helena Dalli pushed several initiatives in this sector.

Ms Dalli said that the Labour government had, between 1996 and 1998, taken several steps which were however discontinued. She believed that a breast screening programme should be introduced for women at a greater risk.

Although the country cannot afford a national breast screening programme for everyone, at least those women who have a greater chance of developing breast cancer should be screened, she said.
