Squash: HAC Squash Club Visiting Malta

Malta Independent Saturday, 13 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The HAC (Honourable Artillery Company) Squash Club will be visiting Malta this weekend to take part in a series of squash matches and training sessions organised by Squash Academy coach Paul Lake.

All sessions will take place at the Marsa Sports Club and will involve several players from the club.

Touring sides are always a welcome sight as this gives local players a chance to train and compete with overseas players.

An Invitation Challenge Tournament takes place today from 1pm and a Team Challenge match tomorrow from 10.30am.

Spectators are welcome to attend both events and are invited to come along and support their local players.

The HAC Squash Club is based at the Honourable Artillery Company in London City.

The Club has two regular teams and plays in the prestigious Bath Cup played between London clubs.

The HAC sides play their home matches at the Holmes Place sports centre near Moorgate in the grounds of the HAC, where the Club has use of the courts on match evenings. Away fixtures are played at clubs across London, which include the Queens Club, Hurlingham and RAF Club amongst others.

Between October and March the sides plays two matches a week on average.

Matches are usually followed by drinks and a meal in the HAC's wonderful dining room.

The Honourable Artillery Company was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1537 by King Henry VIII.

The present captain-general is HM Queen Elizabeth II.
