Diverse Generations is an artistic journey in photography, art and craft brought together by three members of the same family from two different generations. The exhibition is being held at Ir-Razzett tal-Markiz Mallia Tabone in Mosta between today and 27 October. The artists are the father Joseph A. Vella, his daughter Valerie Agius and son Ivan Pierre Vella. This exhibition brings together a selection of artistic work by the father and his children under one roof.
Joseph A. Vella has over 40 years of photographic experience. Born in 1927 he started his photographic career at the age of 38 years. He obtained a number of distinctions, most notably from the Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, the Associate of the Photographic Society of America, the award for Excellence of the Artists de la Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique and the Fellowship of the Malta Photographic Society. He has had over 1,000 acceptances in international exhibitions all over the world and has also held one-man exhibitions in Malta, Moscow, Germany, Belgium and Cyprus. Joe also served as a photographic judge in Malta, London, Belgium and Iran. Since 1994 Joe has featured in the Who’s Who of the Photographic Society of America among the Top 20 monochrome exhibitors. He has won the Photographer of the Year award six times and has also won several Gold, Silver, Bronze Medals and Certificates of Merit in local and international exhibitions.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Valerie was always attracted to artistic matters. Her interests are diverse and include ceramics, which she studied under Gabriel Caruana for a number of years, painting, parchment craft, folk art, gilding – specifically for the traditional Maltese Clock (tal-Lira) and sketching which she is currently studying under Harry Alden.
Ivan Pierre, the son, took up photography as a serious hobby nine years ago. He won a number of photographic competitions locally, most notably the Millennium Competition and participated in collective exhibitions in Malta and abroad. His work was also produced in local press, magazines and music CD covers.
The exhibition is being held on the premises of the Ghaqda Filantropika Talent Mosti, Ir-Razzett tal-Markiz Mallia Tabone, Triq il-Wied, Mosta between today and 27 October. The exhibition will be open from Monday to Friday between 6 and 9pm and on Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 12noon.
