Ruth Schembri At Vee Gee Bee

Malta Independent Sunday, 14 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Artist Ruth Schembri (above) is presently showing her works of art at the Vee Gee Bee Art Gallery, Valletta. Her exhibition Reminiscence will remain open until 3 November.

Ruth Schembri was born in Zebbug, Malta. At the early age of six, she started taking classes in drawing and painting at De La Salle School of Commerce, mostly under the artistic guidance and expertise of Anton Calleja.

The most dramatic development in her art, however, occurred in the last five years where she made the conscious decision to give her all to nurture her artistic calling. Over the years, she has experimented with many different techniques, styles and media and draws inspiration from several artists. Ruth has been living in Dubai for the past eight years. She teaches watercolour in the two main Art Schools in Dubai, namely Ductac and Diac. She has taken part in a number of collective exhibitions and had her first solo exhibition Chromatic Inspirations last June in Dubai. Her work is displayed at Vee Gee Bee Art Gallery, Malta and Art Attack Gallery, Dubai and can be viewed on their respective web sites: www.vgb.com.mt and www.artattackgallery.net.

Reminiscence is a collection of 24 watercolour and ink paintings entirely dedicated to the landscapes of Malta. This ode to Malta is delivered in Ruth’s special style. It is a spontaneous riot of swirling colour and sweeping brush strokes. Her brush strokes and ink lines connect everything together into a balanced cohesive and poetic whole that speaks volumes of the artist’s inextinguishable passion and love for the place where she was born.
