Henry A. Dandria from Naxxar accused the Water Services Corporation of hoarding people’s money “due to the overestimation of household consumption of water and electricity bills issued between actual readings” (TMIS, 7 October).

All estimated bills are worked out on the customer’s average consumption of the last three actual readings, or on an established “benchmark” when such information is not yet available (for example the average consumption in an average family of four, or of a pensioner living alone, and so on). This system ensures an accurate estimation of bills that is fair to our consumers. In any case, even if an estimate were to prove inaccurate, subsequent bills always balance out the account.
