Socialists No more?

Malta Independent Tuesday, 16 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

These days, Dr Sant and the present Labour party officials no longer seem to favour the title socialists. They no longer seem to be proud to be socialists like they were in the 70s and 80s.

This is obviously only a ploy to win middle-of-the-roaders and floaters. They may have shed their socialist tag, but they have retained the socialist characteristics like (a) a government for the Labourites (b) An eye for an eye and (c) mudslinging. After all, a substantial part of today’s Labour Party leadership, as well as a good number of Labour front bench members of parliament, were also protagonists in the Socialist party in the 70s and 80s.

Worse still, this group, now calling themselves New Labour, have never admitted to the errors of their past, let alone apologise to the Maltese electorate for the callous way they governed during their golden years.
