The nationalist party is proposing its vision: that our country becomes “an excellence centre” in six sectors by the year 2015.

On the other hand, those who, like me, followed the Nationalist Party’s general council, could notice little excellence in the speeches delivered, especially by Minister Austin Gatt.

Personal attacks and attempts to discredit Labour leader Alfred Sant, were the only themes tackled by Dr Gatt. It is unacceptable, in a country member of the EU, that one of the main ministers in the government’s cabinet talks in such a manner.

It was embarrassing for Austin Gatt, for his party, for the Prime Minister and for our country. Is this the vision which the Nationalist Party is proposing? Dr Gonzi refrained from condemning Dr Gatt’s speech. Is this the new style of politics the prime minister promised?

The Labour Party has different priorities. It speaks about the issues that are effecting the man in the street. The Labour Party has credible proposals which address seriously our society’s present and future needs. The Labour party is really in touch with citizens. It’s time for serious politics, it’s time for change.
