Works by employees of the Resources and the Infrastructure Ministry were proof of the government’s commitment for the environment, with particular emphasis on restoration and conservation of the country’s historical heritage, Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit said while viewing restoration works at St Luke chapel in Zurrieq, one of the oldest in the town.

The stonework had been cleaned and, where necessary replaced, and the roof repaired. A statue was also restored and new paving laid in the chapel’s parvis. Moreover a new illumination system being installed. The works should be concluded by the end of November.

The present restoration programme includes works on the old church at Siggiewi, Qrejca chapel in Qormi, and the façades of the Monte di Pieta in Valletta, of the National Library, and of the Public Registry in Valletta.

Other works which are planned include St Nicholas chapel in Siggiewi, the Annunciation chapel in Kirkop, and the Angels chapel in Zebbug, and restoration of Sa Maison Fort and Mdina’s principal gate.
