A case in point is the Mqabba local council. Ever since the introduction of local councils in Malta, Mqabba always had a council with a PN majority – this lasted until 2005 when although the PN won the majority of votes the MLP won the council with a freak result through inherited votes.

During the PN’s 12 years of administration a lot of work was done and the council’s finances were always very strong and sound. In just a period of two years, between 2005 and 2007, the Labour administration managed to make a mess of this council and its finances, in the last financial year they registered a deficit in the working capital of Lm32,360 which amounts to 40 per cent of the annual Government allocation for this village.

The Mqabba local council can be compared to the period when Labour party were entrusted with running the country and made a deficit of Lm150 million including the introduction of 33 new taxes.

At Mqabba the Labour council has been ordered by the Department of Local Councils not to make any financial commitments except those the council is obliged to do by law. No Christmas, Carnival or Mqabba Day activities or any capital project are to be done during the current financial year and until the excessive deficit is eliminated. In other words when labour fails, the people will suffer.

The above is a clear-cut example of Labour inefficiency. Labour cannot be trusted to govern, they just do not know how.
