A 50-year-old man was yesterday given an 18-month jail sentence suspended for four years after pleading guilty to forging his father’s signature in order to obtain an insurance policy for his bus on 1 March.

George Falzon, from Zabbar, owns a bus that is registered on his father’s name.

The court, presided over by magistrate Doreen Clarke, heard how Falzon’s father, Carmelo Falzon, wanted to transfer the ownership of the bus only against a payment of Lm15,000. This prompted George Falzon to forge his father’s signature.

Magistrate Clarke said that the accused tried to conform with the law by breaking another law. This, she said, is unacceptable.

Police Inspector Angelo Gafà prosecuted while Dr Mark Busuttil assisted the accused.
