The National Archives has chosen the theme Archives: Bridging the Past and the Future for this year’s Awareness Week running from 22 to 27 October. The main events during this week are the signing of an agreement with the Hill Monastic and Manuscript Library at St John’s University in Minnesota for the digitisation of Law Court records starting from 1530 and an exhibition at the Gozo Section entitled The Citadel: The Crown of Gozo until 3 November.
The theme for the Education Day and exhibition is the Development of the Grand Harbour Facilities. Students from Maria Regina Junior Lyceum, San Anton, St Aloysius College, St Michael’s College and St Theresa Girls Junior Lyceum will participate in a daylong workshop on the theme. Students from Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School have been roped in to help prepare for the activity and coordinate the exhibition. The students will also be addressed by Joe Abela, Manuel Magro Conti and Prof. Charles Savona Ventura, all experts on the theme.
This year’s annual public lecture will discuss the theme Porta Reale and its Environs and will be held on Thursday 25 October at 6.30pm at the Head Office in Rabat. The speaker is Architect Michael Ellul.
The events will be accompanied by features on the local media aimed at promoting this important sector with the general public.
