Baroque sculptures on the stairs of the Public Registry in Merchants Street, which someone thought fit to remove the paint covering them, are now disintegrating, to the dismay of people with a cultural bent who used to be enthralled by the sight of the floral and fruit motifs.
Grand Master De Rohan built the palace in the 18th century.
It has been suggested that students from the Bighi Institute of Restoration could be commissioned to save the sculptures before it is too late.
