The government is expected to announce an agreement with HSBC for the setting up of a Service Centre in Gozo.
The Service Centre will employ at least 50 full time staff.
HSBC will be an important milestone for the attraction of investment to Gozo. HSBC’s decision to set up a Service Centre there is considered to be much more important than the setting up of a new commercial activity.
This is therefore a milestone in the government’s quest to channel investment into Gozo and create good quality jobs.
Perhaps even more than Malta, Gozo is undergoing an important shift towards higher-added value manufacturing and services. Gozo has certain limitations such its distance from the airport and ports and its limited human resources. Notwithstanding this, the government is doing its utmost to facilitate and channel investment to Gozo.
If HSBC can make it in Gozo, so too can other companies despite the extra effort required.
