The harbour at Pozzallo will be dredged in time for the next season, harbour master Antonio Donato announced.
The harbour has been slowly choking with silt over the years, and this is now rendering anchoring and berthing difficult not just in the “small harbour” but also in the “big one’.
Pozzallo harbour has seen its mercantile traffic explode over the past years, mostly due to trade with Malta.
This trade does not consist only of tourism but also of aluminium and other goods.
The refurbishment of the harbour will also include a much better maritime station than the one there is now, Captain Donato said.
