Reference is made to the recent MLP protest held in front of the Broadcasting Authority against the present programming situation at PBS.

Although I may not be an MLP supporter, I totally agree with both Mr Micallef and the MLP when it comes to the Public Broadcasting Services position at this moment in time.

I personally think that PBS, or better still TVM, has not been in such a bad state for quite a number of years. The achievements past chairmen, past directors and many valuable PBS employees managed to attain over the years are being literally thrown down the drain.

It does not take much to realise that the present board of directors or chairman do not know much of about TV. The current schedule is to say the least short of content, highly biased and lacking in true Maltese values.

Certain TV shows that have been included in the current schedule are not even fit to be screened on certain low budget TV channels.

I feel that PBS as a State company should be much more responsible and dedicated towards the Maltese and Gozitan viewer who, at the end of the day, pays the TV licences just for the sake of having a national TV station.

We Maltese and Gozitan viewers are being offered what politicians want to show us and you members of the PBS board of directors together with the chairman should be on the look out to avoid political intervention and to respect what the viewers want.

It’s a shame that the board of directors is not man enough so stand up to political pressures and say enough is enough.

I trust this letter will not pass unnoticed and immediate action is taken.

The election is round the corner and the media will play an important role. Let us not turn Xandir Malta into Mandra Malta like it was in the old days...
