Overestimation Of bills

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

From Mr H. A. Dandria

Reading the WSC’s Head of Public Relations’ reply (TMIS, 14 October) to my letter of the previous Sunday, it seems that the WSC has taken umbrage to my accusation that the WSC/Enemalta are hording people’s money due to the overestimation of bills. However, nowhere in his letter does he deny this except in the title “No overestimation of bills”.

He then goes on to say that the system adopted to estimate the bills “is fair to our consumers” and shrugs off any hording that might take place with “in any case, even if an estimate were to prove inaccurate subsequent bills always balance out the account”. This is as it should be! However, may I ask when? In my case, inaccuracies when working out my estimates keep recurring. I have also been quite categorically informed in the past by a WSC customer care inquiry officer, that a credit balance on an account cannot be transferred to another water and electricity bill unless the account is inactive or transferred.

To be fair, I must say that when I made an official complaint and returned my September bill as being unacceptable, because it was overestimated by 137.63 per cent, my objection was accepted and the bill reissued according to confirmed readings.

Henry A. Dandria
