Current league leaders Floriana and 11-time winners Valletta were given an easy draw yesterday as the draws of the first round matches were made yesterday.
Taking part in this round are the last placed six teams in last season's Premier League and all the 10 first division teams. The first four placed teams in last season's Premier League, that is, Marsaxlokk, Sliema W., Birkirkara and Hibernians, are all seeded and will enter the competition at the quarter-final stage.
Floriana, winners of the Trophy 18 times, have been drawn to meet First Division newcomers Mellieha, while Valletta will be facing St Patrick. Hamrun Spartans, winners on six occasions, will be facing Mosta.
The draws included the following matches: Pieta H.-St George's; Mqabba-Vittoriosa S.; Msida St Joseph-Senglea Athletic; Qormi-Tarxien Rainbows and Marsa-Dingli S.
This round is to be played on 3, 4, 10 and 11 November with all the matches being staged at the Centenary Stadium.
The second round is scheduled for 2 and 3 March 2008 while the quarter-finals are to be played on 12 and 13 April. The semi-finals should be played on 23 and 24 May with the final scheduled to be played on 30 May.
