After climbing to number one in the ranking of the Malta Tennis Federation, Patrick (12), together with his father and coach Venelin Georgiev, went to Germany.
Having difficult time of adopting to the new surface (clay), Patrick took part in tournaments in Frankenthal and Wolfsburg organised by Tennis Europe. Powering his game match after match, Patrick got his first wins over Ilya Polonskiy from Russia and Teksem Alev from Turkey.
The second country he visited was Bulgaria. In Bankia, Russe and Varna, Patrick won all his friendly games, before entering the national competition in the town of Pleven.
In the first round he won the No. 2 in the draw, Joan Penev, 7-5, 6-1. Later in the semi-final against Miroslav Georgiev, Patrick, after losing the first set 5-7, improved his game to win 7-5, 6-1. Accumulating pain in the shoulder through the tournament did not let Pat win the final game. He lost 6-4,6-4 against Lubomir Petrov from CSKA.
