When the tourism industry was going through a lean period, all the blame was put on the government in general and on the minister concerned in particular. Now that the situation is much, much better, read what Labour MP Evarist Bartolo had to say: “We lost 10,000 tourists this summer because there was no hotel availability... the MLP plan for tourism provided incentives to build new hotels...” no comment is necessary.

Writing in these columns (TMID, 11 October), Oisin Jones-Dillon from St Paul’s Bay had this to say: “This ascendant specimen unquestionably merits its special designation as an endemic breed. The Maltese Crane!”

How funny! How very funny! Does Mr Jones Dillon expect us to stop the construction industry for the simple reason that he does not like the sight of a crane? Or are cranes found only in Malta? Certainly cranes do not offer a pleasant sight, but certainly they are a sign of a vibrant economy.
