MLP Gives full support to EMPA

Malta Independent Friday, 26 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

MLP leader Alfred Sant yesterday told Euro-Mediterranean parliamentary Assembly (EMPA) general secretary, Sergio Piazzi that after the next general election, a Labour party in government would give his full support to consolidate workings of the assembly.

Dr Sant also said that Labour spokesperson for foreign affairs, Dr George Vella, who was also present at the meeting, would definitely be at the helm of these efforts. Dr Vella was one of the pioneers who set up EMPA and has been working on this initiative for the past 25 years, Dr Sant added.

Mr Piazzi was reported by an MLP statement as having praised the effort made by the Labour Party in favour of enforcing EMPA and said that Dr Vella would be fulfilling a crucial role as he is already the Assembly’s rapporteur for the Middle East.
