Second National SKSM children karate championships organised successfully

Last weekend, the second SKSM National Chilidren Karate Championships for 2007 were held at Mosta. This one day event was organised by the sub committee and headed by Chris Galea (Head of SKSM Karate Malta).

This was another big successful event for SKSM, with over 65 athletes competing in 27 different categories and with the participation of other various Maltese Karate Clubs from around the Maltese Islands.

The Championships included both Individual and Team events in both Kata (combination of techniques performed by the athletes in front of the judges where points are obtained on perfection, coordination, balance, speed, and agility) and Kumite (sparring). Chief Referee Lucienne Galea ensured the smooth running of the technical area.

The Head of SKSM, Chris Galea, commented that he was extremely pleased with all of his students’ commitment and courage and that without any doubt the level of all SKSM members is continuously rising. One can view all results and photos on www.sksm-karate-malta.com

In the meantime a team of 16 SKSM athletes are now undergoing intensive preparation in order to participate and represent the school and Malta, in London in another International Karate Championships next weekend.

Very good results were obtained last year in this event with our local school, SKSM Karate Malta coming back with seven Gold, three Silver and 10 Bronze medals among 15 other countries and also finishing in first place overall winners in this prestigious event.

Other international commitments are also due during the next months in Italy, Ireland and Spain. Next year, in March 2008, SKSM will be organizing the second edition of the Four Nations International Karate Championships here in Malta, where four countries namely Ireland, England, Scotland and Malta will be participating in this unique and prestigious event.
