Qormi 1
Senglea A 0
Qormi obtained their second consecutive victory of the season beating Senglea with a solitary goal scored by substitute Lee Grima 20 minutes from time. The match was very balanced and a draw would have been a fairer result even though Qormi missed some chances near the end with Senglea in desperate search of the equlaiser.
Senglea were not at their best as compared to their last positive outing against St. George's in the Cottonera derby. On the other hand, Qormi continued on the winning track after their overall good performance in their last outing St Patrick.
The match failed to lift off with the initial stages played mainly in midfield with both sides blotting out each other. Senglea had their first attempt on 20 minutes when Ewurun passed to Glenn Bonello who shot wide when well placed. Five minutes later it was Qormi's turn to create the first danger when from a good Joe Farrugia free-kick, Carmel Formosa headed slightly over the bar. Just before the break Senglea goalkeeper Atard brought the house down when he dived brilliantly to save a certain goal off a Carmel Formosa header who was well served by Clyde Camoin.
The second period started with Senglea's striker Kenneth Abela beating a couple of defenders before shooting slightly over the bar.
Qormi started to dominate the second half and forged ahead on 70 minutes. Carmel Formosa passed to substitute Lee Grima who shot low into the net for what proved to be the winner.
Senglea should have obtained the equaliser three minutes later when Anthony Ewurun smashed his close range shot against the crossbar. Senglea pushed everything forward in the last minutes but gave way to Qormi's fast breaks with their defence completely caught off guard.
Senglea goalkeeper Attard denied another substitute Anatole Debono with a fine save, and just before the final whistle, Lee Grima's shot skimmed the upright.
