Dingli Swallows and Vittoriosa Stars figured a goalless draw, the first one this season in this category. After their turbulent match against Mosta, Vittoriosa had to do without skipper Ivan Zammit and obviously striker Anthony Eviparker, both dismissed against Mosta. To cap it all Vittoriosa had to play the last 30 minutes without midfielder Larry Lagana who was given the marching orders following his second book-able offence.
However Dingli, although pressing hard to score the winner, failed to obtain their first visctory this season. Vittoriosa must thank their goalkeeper Ivan Cassar who effected a string of very good saves especially in the final moments of the match, to keep his opponents at bay.
Vittoriosa had their first chance when Timothy Thomas' shot was well saved by Jeffrey Farrugia. On 14 minutes Dingli had their first chance when from a Fabio Cauchi free-kick, David Gauci headed slightly wide. Dingli wnet close again on 25 minutes when Jeremy Agius tested Cassar with Formosa failing to hit in the rebound.
On 40 minutes Dingli's Anywanna created havoc in the Vittoriosa defense but his shot went slightly over the bar. Two minutes later it was Vittoriosa's turn to go close to scoring when Leighton Grech, who had another good performance yesterday, passed to Darmanin whose shot was blocked by Farrugai and from the rebound the same Grech saw his shot going inches wide.
In stoppage time Dingli Swallows were very unlucky when a Chris Ciappara shot was deflected by goalkeeper Cassar, with the ball finishing off against the post.
The second half was less intense with few goalmouth actions until the 64 th minute when Larry Lagana was sent off.
Dingli increased the pressure trying to make full use of their numerical superiority. On 70 minutes Anywanna missed a sitter in front of goal when he failed to score with only Cassar to beat.
Ivan Cassar stole the show in the dying minutes of the match denying Etienne Farrugia and Anywanna with spectacular saves. Substitute Jonathan Sapiano received a good ball from Anywanna but again Cassar was on hand to save his side.
In their last real danger Dingli went close when Anywanna dribbled his way inside the Stars' penalty area but his shot was somehow blocked by defender Sciberras.
