MLP Spokesman denies personal attack

Malta Independent Wednesday, 31 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, MLP spokesperson for social solidarity, said that contrary to what the Nationalist Party was saying, she did not personally attack the president of the National Commission for the Family and the Children’s Commissioner.

Ms Coleiro Preca said that in her 33 years in politics she had never gone down to that level. Her argumentation was always on facts of public interest. It was opportunism and politically dishonest of the government and the Nationalist media to see a personal attack in what she had said.

She was sorry that the president of the National Family Commission gave an interview to the PN’s media in which he spoke selectively only on categories of people and left out others who were not going to benefit from the changes to the income tax bands.

In the same manner the Commissioner for Children should have mentioned the burden of the power surcharge on families with children.

She said no intimidation or media abuse would prevent her from carrying out her political mission.
