Ostrich-like Conviction

Malta Independent Wednesday, 31 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Allow me to reply to the letter titled More convinced than before by correspondent Charmaine Calleja (TMID, 25 October) in particular where, quoting verbatim, she stated that Lawrence Gonzi’s leadership has been “characterised by various unsocial measures” by asking her whether certain measures included in the 2007/2008 budget, such as a Lm12 million addition to social and health funding a drastic (positive) review in children’s allowance allocation are “unsocial” or “anti-social” measures.

The correspondent stated that she would not “change her mind” but will still be “voting for a new beginning”. One can rebut by saying that well-known familiar faces can never provide a true “new beginning” and since she seems to prefer (Socialist) empty air to (Nationalist) substance one wonders how wise it is for her to continue to bury her head in the sand.
