If it weren’t for the Malta Labour Party, it wouldn’t have happened. You would have been only fit enough to cook, make love and have babies!
The 25 October should be always marked on your calender as a very special day. It was exactly 60 years ago in 1947 that the MLP gave you your greatest “weapon”. The right to decide who you want to govern your country, therefore the right to stand up and be counted.
No longer were you classified as a shadow of your husband. No more were you silenced, stripped of every sense of dignity because as a woman you were defined with not having a mind of your own.
Woman, remember it was the MLP who gave you the right to vote. Had it been for the PN this coming election you would not be putting pen to paper to vote for your party close to your heart.
True, 60 years have passed but the PN never changed with the years so I bet my last 43 cents soon to be called one euro that you still would have been shoved behind your husband’s trousers to be hidden if the Nationalists had it their way. They would never have given you the right to vote!
If only you knew the “battles” the MLP fought for your right to vote. Lest you forget woman, it was also the MLP who introduced equal pay for men and women alike.
Woman, when you go to vote this coming election, don’t you ever forget the party who lifted you up from being weedy and feeble to a well-balanced individual, equal to any man.
