It was a nightmare yesterday for Marsa at Ta’ Qali.

This match which was abandoned last Friday due to fog, with the Saints leading 2-1, turned out to be a one way traffic affair with St George’s in full command from start to finish.

As the score clearly indicates it was a case of no contest with St george’s in a class of their own and with Marsa unable to offer decent resistance.

Peter Anizoba was surely the star of the Saints who were still smarting from their defeat against rivals and neighbours Senglea in the Cottonera derby.

After only three minutes play St George’s were already in the lead when Anizoba was floored by defender Darren Vella with the referee opting for the penalty spot and Silvio Sciberras made no mistake.

Five minutes later the match already gave a clear indication of its outcome when the Saints doubled the score. A Silvio Sciberras corner kick was headed by Glenn Tanti towards the far post beyond the reach of goalkeeper Rodrick Spiteri.

With Anizoba in irresistible mood Marsa’s defence was at his mercy, but the Saints missed some easy scoring chances.

However on 32 minutes a Vincent Camilleri from more than 25 meters finished in the top corner of the net.

Just before the break St george’s scored their fourth goal when Anizoba passed to Clayton Caruana who had the easiest of chances planting the ball home.

In the second half the Saints continued to pile up the pressure in search of further goals.

On the hour a Heathcliff Schembri pass towards the best layer on the field, and Anizoba notched the fifth goal.

In their only danger Marsa hit the crossbar through a Darren Vella freekick and on 77 minutes Silvio Sciberras obtained his brace by scoring the sixth and final goal.

Mosta 2

St Patrick 0

Mosta obtained their third straight victory in a row, as they now lead the table with nine points.

Their victims yesterday were St Patrick, who slumped to their third successive defeat, and are still in search of their first points.

The Saints are passing through a very lean patch, and this dismal start can have its toll at the end of the season.

St Patrick have many players missing from their regular line up, but still they seem to be lacking punch, and their defence is vulnerable under pressure.

Mosta were somewhat lucky to take the lead early in the second half, following a defensive blunder by goalkeeper Azzopardi. But after taking the lead Mosta dominated the match as they showed they are by far a better side and fully deserved their victory in the end.

The match lacked goal mouth drama in the first half with the best chance the Saints’ way when Carl Micallef produced a good run on the left flank before testing goalkeeper Debono with an angled shot.

The second half started with the Mosta goalkeeper effecting two brilliant saves to keep his side in the match.

On the other end on 55 minutes, St Patrick goalkeeper Azzopardi failed to clear and Carlos Camenzuli easily scored with an open goal at his mercy.

The Saints failed to produce a decent attacking action as Mosta showed the better stuff going near the second goal on several occasions.

In stoppage time Mosta sealed the issue with a fast break that was finished off in style by Carlos Camenzuli.
