Basketball: Good Performances by Maltese players

National team player Rebecca Brincat last weekend played two games with her team Wasserburg in Germany.

In the first game, against Evo New Basket Oberhausen, Brincat's team won 72-54. Rebecca had a good performance scoring 19 points and three rebounds.

In the second game, against TV 1872 Saarlouis Royals, Wasserburg won 77-75 and in this game Brincat scored eight points and had one rebound.

Josephine Grima, now on loan with Eriene Siracusa, played her third game against Fontalba Messina.

Siracusa won 59-51 in a game in which Josephine scored 28 points. The Italian press described Josephine as "Super Grima" and that she was uncontrollable especially under the boards during the game.

In this match Josephine found another Maltese player on the other side of the courts. Antoinette Borg is playing for Fontalba Messina and so far Messina won one game in which the Maltese young player scored nine points.

Another player playing in Italy is Lee Ross who plays in the under 17 team of Stella Azzurra. His team won both games so far and Lee scored seven points in the first game against Rieti.

Maltese officials abroad

FIBA commissioner Leonard Falzon and international referees Bernard Vassallo and Gordon Barbara will be abroad next week.

Falzon and Barbara will both be in Schio (Italy) for the first day FIBA Euro Cup Group I game between Beretta Famila Schio (Italy) and Extrugasa (Spain). The game will be played on November 7.

Bernard Vassallo will be in Taranto, Italy for the FIBA Euro Cup Group J game between Cras Taranto (Italy) and Hondarribia Irun (Spain).

Vassallo already refereed both teams in the past. Last year he was one of the FIBA referees in the game between Taranto and Tarbes on 9 November and on 22 November in Bilbao, Spain, for the game between Hondarribia Irun - Aix en Provence (France).
