Someone once said that if you repeat your own lies, you would start to believe them. This seems to be the state of affairs with the Labour Party and its followers. On 25 October, I wrote in The Times of Malta and stated that “How some people believe their own fabrications bewilders me. I am also astonished how the Labour Party and its leader juggle words and numbers to sound convincing. Dom Mintoff, their longest serving leader, had the cheek to state in parliament that it was a Labour government that gave women the right to vote. Absolutely not true.”

Valerie Borg (TMID, 31 October) stated that on 25 October 1947, the Labour Party gave women the right to vote. What a load of rubbish. The 1947 Constitution was “granted” by the British government and it was that constitution that gave universal suffrage for the first time. On 25 October of that year Miss Agatha Barbara was the first woman to be elected to parliament.

Well, Ms Borg’s claim is as true as Labour’s claim that they have obtained our freedom. These people expect you to trust them and vote for them. Don’t be fools, when the day comes, execute your right to vote wisely.

Just remember that Labour was in government before and when they were in power we only had turmoil. They were in government between 1947 and 1949; they did nothing but fight between themselves and resigned.

Between 1955 and 1958 again they were in government, and they tried to sell our soul to the British crown and resigned.

Again they were in power this time from 1971 to 1987 and nobody, I repeat nobody wants to remember those days.

Ten years ago they were also in government and, thank God, the chaos only lasted for 22 months.

History proves my point. Only a Nationalist government safeguards our future. Remember, our children’s future depends on strong and reliable hands and we all know who’s hands they are. Dr Lawrence Gonzi and his new cabinet have got all the right answers for this beloved land of ours.
