Charles Grech & Co. Ltd, distributors of Heineken beer, distanced themselves from the Italy-England Legends match at Ta’ Qali, and the post-match dinner, which left many disappointed.
The company said in a statement it was one of the main sponsors of the event, but was not in any way involved in its organisation.
A number of big-name football stars and pop stars who were supposed to participate in the event, never showed up, in spite of the advertising campaign and the MMF’s indications and commitments during the negotiation process.
Regarding the dinner, the company said that despite an exclusive seating reservation for Charles Grech & Co. Ltd’s management, they opted to walk out of the event, in solidarity with the hundreds of disappointed patrons.
In view of the situation that developed, it added, it reserved the right to institute legal proceedings to support its legal and commercial interests notwithstanding the firm’s reputation and brand’s image that “were seriously jeopardised as a consequence of the maladministration of the events by MMF and the ensuing disorganisation that reigned supreme”.
