The trial by jury of Louis Mallia is expected to come to a close today after the presiding judge finishes summing up the case for the jurors before they retire to consider their verdict.
Mr Mallia, 39, from Valletta, is accused of the attempted murder of Gordon Calleja on 30 September 2004, illegal possession of a weapon as well as breaching the peace.
Both prosecution and the defence rested their case yesterday after which Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono started summing up the case.
The prosecution was led by Dr Aaron Bugeja while Dr Malcolm Mifsud appeared for the accused.
