Gudja-Kalkara 2-2

Gudja had a strong start and after just seven minutes a header by Terence Vella was well saved by Barbara.

Gudja broke the deadlock on 19 minutes through a strong shot by Elvin Gauci with Kalkara replying through Kevin Schembri who hit high over the bar from a good position.

Kalkara’s pressure paid off on 37 minutes as a shot by Mark Drago was handled by a Gudja defender and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Kalkara’s captain Nicholas Gatt converted with an angled shot.

Three minutes before the end of the first-half Kalkara were denied by Zammit off a Calvin Vassallo first-timer. Two minutes into the second-half Kalkara were denied by Zammit off a Kevin Tonna effort with Gudja coming back through Elvin Gauci and Elton Bugeja whose attempts were saved by substitute keeper Darren Camilleri.

Kalkara then went close through Mark Drago but it was Gudja who took the lead through Terence Vella who surprised Camilleri from a long-range free-kick. Kalkara’s strong reaction produced a Kevin Tonna header and a Nicholas Gatt shot which were well saved by Zammit but they managed to make it two-all in the 78th minute through Joe Mizzi from a cross by Kevin Tonna.

Late in the match Kalkara increased the pressure and they were denied by Zammit in the 94th minute off a Joe Mizzi direct free-kick.

Referee: Chris Francalanza.

St Lucia-Gharghur 0-3

Early in the match, the Saints went close through Liam Cutajar and in the 28th minute a lob by Antoine Saoiano was cleared off the goal line by a Gharghur defender.

Gradually Gharghur gained control of the midfield sector and were close through Andre Azzopardi and Christian Glass. The Saints replied through a dangerous shot by Clayton Goodrum which just missed the target and at the other end Gharghur had attempts by Karl Vella Petroni and Christian Glass which were well saved by Carabott.

Gharghur dictated the run of play after the change of ends and on 58 minutes a Vella Petroni free-kick was headed in by Kurt Pisani.

The Saints failed to react with Gharghur making it 2-0 in the 63rd minute as a Brincat shot was deflected into the net by Saints’ defender Chris Cutajar for an unfortunate own goal.

A minute into injury time, Gharghur scored a third goal through Antonello Brincat.

Referee: Alexie Tabone
