It is evident that the new battle cry of the MLP is that who dares wins, and one of the daring promises for next year general elections is the removal of the tax on overtime. The Nationalist Party is wrong in assuming that income tax on overtime is only payable at the rate of 15 per cent. There exists overtime that is charged at even 35 per cent tax.

Now, if I understand well, the MLP are binding themselves that if and when they are elected to govern they will wipe out all taxes on all overtime, immaterial if this is going to fall in the bracket of the 15 per cent, 25 per cent and/or 35 per cent tax band. Labour leader Sant must let us know for how long will this measure be for. He has to be very clear and bind his future government from now that this removal will be a permanent one and that this will not be replaced by some other tax.

And while we are on this subject, what about the 15 per cent tax that is paid on part time work? It goes without saying that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. Hence this tax will have to be scrapped and removed; otherwise there would be social injustice, which I presume the Labour leaders are all against.

Last but not least, what about the “infamous” 15 per cent withholding tax on bank interests? Isn’t this cruel especially on the pensioner depositors who have saved money to supplement their pensions by means of bank interests? Even this has to be removed and there should not be any withholding tax on any bank deposits.

Who dares wins, but who will be the loser?
