As expected, the strongest teams all won during their weekend commitments. In the men’s league, Aloysians played against Marsascala with the latter winning 3-2. In the ladies category, Flyers beat Playvolley Blue 3-1 whilst X-Sel won against Playvolley Red with the same score.

In the men’s league, Marsascala immediately leapt to a 2-0 lead by winning the first two sets 25-23 and 25-18.

It was clearly turning out not to be Aloysians’ day as their performance, unlike their previous one against Fleur de Lys and Marsascala Mapei was not as good. Aloysians are still without their main setter Matthew Cumbo and David Briffa played in this position instead.

Marsascala played a good game with Michael Magro and brothers Aristair and Ryan Borg playing well. Aloysians put up a fight during the third set and managed to win 25-23 and this helped them build confidence and win the fourth set 25-22. The fifth set was all in favour of Marsascala with Aloysians and these won the final set 15-12.

In the ladies league, as expected X-Sel and Flyers recorded convincing wins against Playvolley Red and Playvolley Blue respectively.

X-Sel had an excellent start to the game when these won the first set 25-11. During the second set Playvolley Red put up more of a fight and only lost by five points. This was just a taste of what was to come as Playvolley even managed to win the third set 25-18. However, X-Sel were in no mood to lose three points and ended the game by winning the fourth set 25-22.

Flyers, donning their brand new kits had a successful outing against Playvolley Blue and won the first set 25-18. However Playvolley Blue recovered well with good attacks by Nadia Lanzon and the always present Maria Demicoli.

These helped Playvolley win the second set 25-14. Flyers fought back with Louise Spiteri and Lindsey Cordina in good form and won the third set 25-22. Louise Spiteri was also instrumental in the fourth set as she performed some good defensive work against Playvolley spikes.

The fourth set saw Stephanie Aqulina gain precious points with a number of services. Flyers get the three points by winning the fourth set 25-21.

No matches will be played next weekend due to an event at the Cottonera Sports Complex. The MVA Volleyball league will resume on 17 November with the top match being Paola Hibs Candy vs X-Sel.
