People like John Saliba (TMID Friday 2 November) never cease to amaze me. In his letter titled “Women’s right to vote” he had the gall to state that it was not Dom Mintoff whom in 1947 brought about women’s right to vote.
Too true he did. Not only was Mr Mintoff responsible for the vote for women, but also for children’s allowances, bonuses, maternity grants, other social benefits etc etc.
Left to the Nationalists, the right to social benefits was denied to those who needed them.
Is Mr Saliba such a diehard Nationalist that he fails to comprehend that it was only through the Labour Party that these things came to pass?
Both parties had turbulent years yet it was the Labour Party who erased poverty from our streets, poverty that is rearing its ugly head since the Nationalists came to power. God forbid, they should be re-elected again
