I refer to the article entitled “Cohabitation more worrying than Divorce” (The Sunday Times, 14 October) in which Fr Galea said that he is more worried about cohabitation than divorce and that cohabitation is the biggest insult to marriage. I would like to raise the following points.

I am separated from my wife and applied for a Church annulment in April 2004 – three-and-half years ago – but so far all I have received is an acknowledgment. Why all this silence? Are the Church authorities conscious of the sufferings me and other thousands endure everyday?

Last Sunday I went to Mass at the Zurrieq parish church. I went to confession and when I told the priest I was living with my partner he abruptly refused to give me absolution and also told me not to go up to him to receive Holy Communion. Am I not a human being? Am I not God’s creation?

I have tried countless times to check about my situation, only to receive nonsense answers that my application is still pending, than what should I do? Live in the fast lane? No, since I am not that type of man. Why shouldn’t I, and many, many others like me, have a second chance?
