Mr Aquilina’s monochrome illustrations of Labour and PN local councils are counter-productive. Enthusiastic support and blind loyalty for one’s political party is one thing, but overstatements, half truths, twisted arguments and deceptive conclusions cannot be ignored.
His statement in last Sunday’s Independent, “The Zejtun Local Council is one of the Labour-led councils that ignored the MLP directive”, is a figment of Mr Aquilina’s imagination and a blatant lie. I have led a Labour majority in Zejtun for the last nine years and have never received any suggestions, instructions or directives from anyone, let alone the MLP, regarding employment of council staff. Mr Aquilina’s implication that the Labour majority in Zejtun is somehow in conflict with the party’s administration is just hot air. The reason is simple. There was never any directive to ignore!
Mr Aquilina’s dramatic division of the Maltese political stage between red devils and blue angels is a non-starter. If he wishes to exorcise the demons, which at present bedevil the PN chessboard, he must redraw his plot. The public perception that Labour-led councils generally perform better than PN-led councils is the result of good planning, sensible financial management and hard work.
Mr Aquilina’s other attack concerning nursing exam results, has long been cleared by the courts as political smearing. On the other hand I can, from personal experience, furnish him with excellent examples of his party’s expertise in political ruthlessness. His assistance in correcting injustices will be most welcome.
