Ericsson Award Of Excellence for GO Mobile engineer

GO Mobile engineer George Xuereb was recently presented with the Ericsson Award of Excellence in Telecommunications. Organised by Ericsson’s local company in Greece - Ericsson Hellas – in conjunction with the University of Malta, the award was presented to a total of six theses prepared by both graduate and post graduate students.

The GO Mobile engineer received the prestigious award after completing an undergraduate dissertation for the Electrical Engineering Degree at the University of Malta. The dissertation focused on WiMAX and consisted of a software simulation and a study of the WiMAX standard. WiMAX is a wireless technology which can provide, among other applications, high-speed internet over long distances.

All six recipients of the award were invited for a two-day visit to the Ericsson headquarters in Sweden, besides being offered an honorary commendation as well as a cheque in symbolic recognition of their efforts. An awards ceremony, which was attended by Minister for investment, Industry and IT Dr Austin Gatt and by Ericsson representatives from Malta and Greece amongst others, was also held at he Intercontinental Hotel.

The abstracts of all theses of the award winners will be included in a special electronic publication of Ericsson, which will be sent to the company’s headquarters in Sweden, so as to promote the work of the Maltese students and University abroad.

Martin Zammit, GO Mobile head of engineering, commented: “GO Mobile is proud to have an engineer who has thus distinguished himself on board. I’m confident that this been a very valuable experience for him.”
