Section ‘A’

Mdina-Mtarfa 6-0

After just three minutes Mtarfa scored through Lee Wingfield who was however in an offside position and the goal was disallowed.

On 15 minutes Mtarfa lost their regular goalkeeper Clinton Bugeja Camilleri who was injured as Mdina gradually dictated the run of play, going close through Micallef and Nader.

They broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Ian Sammut with Ayrton Buhagiar adding another goal just four minutes later.

Mtarfa suffered another blow on 43 minutes when their veteran midfield player Joe Farrugia was sent off for a second yellow card with Mdina scoring a third goal in added time through Adrian Farrugia.

After the change of ends Mdina continued to dominate their neighbours with Ayrton Buhagiar making it 4-0 on 55 minutes.

They added two further goals through Nader Touttoungi Nader and Ayrton Buhagiar in the 58th and 59th minutes for a final 6-0 scoreline. Mdina are now sole leaders with Mtarfa suffering their fifth consecutive defeat.

Ghaxaq-Fgura 1-0

The first part of the match failed to produce any goalmouth actions and the first opportunity belonged to Ghaxaq on 31 minutes as Christian Cristiano hit just wide following a personal effort.

Then Kevin Gambin shot just high over the bar from the edge of the penalty area with Fgura gradually sharing the exchanges.

They wasted a good opportunity through Rodney Galea with Ghaxaq having the best opportunity in the 45th minute as Francois Galea finished off a good move with a shot which just missed the far post.

Early in the second half Ghaxaq’s striker Bjorn Dalli hit the post with an inswinging shot and then the same player hit just wide from a good position.

Fgura responded through a Vince Testaferrata shot which was saved by Celeste and an effort by Clayton Garzia which just missed the target.

The match seemed to be heading to a goalless draw but three minutes from time Ghaxaq grabbed the winning goal through Bjorn Dalli who beat Farrugia with an angled shot following a personal effort.

Section ‘B’

Kirkop-Pembroke 2-2

Kirkop took the lead after just eight minutes as Alan Deidun surprised Pembroke’s keeper with a long-range lob. Gradually Pembroke dictated the run of play and they managed to equalise in the 14th minute through an unfortunate own-goal by Kirkop’s full-back Mark Farrugia.

Then Pembroke were close through Liam Camilleri and on 36 minutes their striker Steve Micallef was fouled by Kirsten Buhagiar with the referee awarding them with a penalty which was however blasted high over the bar by Robert Zammit.

Three minutes before the end of the first-half Jeffrey Fenech put Pembroke 2-1 following good work by Carlo Leonardi with Kirkop coming strongly back after the change of ends.

Kirkop were back on level terms in the 52nd minutes through Alan Deidun following a personal effort with Pembroke responding two minutes later as Liam Camilleri’s shot was cleared off the line by Brian Falzon.

Then Kirkop were twice close through Charlo Debattista as Pembroke were denied by Mizzi off an attempt by Nicholas Aquilina.

Luqa SA-Kalkara 1-1

After ten minutes Kalkara were very close with Kevin Tonna hitting just wide following a personal effort.

Seven minutes later the Kalkara keeper Camilleri brought off a fine save of a Cumbo free-kick and on another occasion Alessandro Pirrone shot just wide with a strong shot.

Kalkara were then close through Kevin Schembri and Nicholas Gatt and just before the break the Kalkara’s keeper Darren Camilleri came out of his posts to block off a Mark Said effort.

In added time Agius denied Kalkara off a point-blank attempt by Justin Camilleri. Kalkara gained the initiative after the break and after going close through Kevin Tonna, they managed to break the deadlock on the hour through substitute Joe Mizzi.

Kalkara pressed forward with Mizzi twice going close to increasing his team’s lead.

Luqa also wasted a clear opportunity through Nathaniel Falzon with Kalkara twice being denied by John Agius off efforts by Noel Bugeja and Clayton Farrugia.

When all seemed lost for Luqa, they managed too draw level in added time through a Clive Psaila free-kick which was deflected by a Kalkara defender.
