Councillors Condemn peer’s sentiments

Malta Independent Friday, 16 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Four Qormi PN councillors moved a motion to condemn MLP councillor Bjorn Azzopardi’s sentiments that the MLP had to be tough with people having Nationalist Party tendencies.

A PN statement yesterday said that Mr Azzopardi’s feelings were traced in internal MLP correspondence. His choice of words was divisive and should be condemned, it said.

This kind of discourse follows that of other Labour Party speakers. MLP leader Alfred Sant had said more than once that the politics of the Labour Party were that of an “eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth”.

Mr Azzopardi’s views that “we have to be tough with these people” reflected other declarations by the Labour Party’s leadership, the PN said.
