Boffa Hospital

Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 November 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Everybody is thoroughly conscious that Boffa Hospital is closing its gates and being “removed” to where once was Zammit Clapp Hospital or better still the Blue Sisters Hospital.

Boffa Hospital, which is in a commercial strategic position, is surely not to be renovated into a series of apartments for young married couples, single parents or families with a meagre earning. Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is no fool. The ground will be valued at millions of Liri considering its magnificent position quite near to Valletta with a marvellous view of the Grand Harbour.

The pleas of those who are “homeless” are incidentally falling on deaf ears, and God forbid, if the present administration comes to power again, we will be subjected to watching a five star hotel “implemented” for the benefit of tourists who come to visit our island as has already been indicated by Minister Austin Gatt. Have Floriana residents no say in this matter or do they honestly believe that they are actually going to be better off through the sale of this hospital? Haven’t we enough hotels around our island in order not be able to “survive” without another one? Wouldn’t the construction of apartments for the aforementioned people who are in need of decent accommodation be more sensible than another hotel? Floriana Mayor, this is your wake up call.
