Two Men ordered to start rehab

Two men, who pleaded guilty to stealing a car stereo were ordered, by magistrate Antonio Mizzi, to enroll in a drug rehabilitation programme.

Alan Gatt, 31, from Pietà, and Omar Calleja, 19, from Gharghur, yesterday pleaded guilty to stealing a car stereo on Tuesday around 12.30pm in Hamrun. They also admitted to causing less than Lm500 in damages to a car and of dealing in stolen goods. Calleja alone pleaded guilty to breaching a probation order.

Magistrate Mizzi gave them a six month jail sentence suspended for two years, and ordered them to start a drug rehabilitation programme within the next six months.

Police Inspector Daniel Zammit led the prosecution, while lawyers Daniela Mangion and Grazzielle Buttigieg were defence counsel.
