Senglea Athletics had an impressive performance yesterday scoring the first goals against the unbeaten Mosta fort, and also giving their opponents the first defeat of the season.

Senglea were the better team as they fully deserved their victory. Mosta found the going hard from the very first minute as they never really cam to grips with their opponents better midfield sector. Mosta’s best patch came early in the second half when they obtained the equaliser, but it was a sporadic moment as Senglea soon re-captured the lead to cruise home to an important victory.

Mosta had the first attempt at goal with Carlos Camenzuli shooting over the bar following a Ginev cross from the left. On seven minutes Senglea forged ahead when ex-Mosta striker Ewurun shot homa a Kenneth Abela cross.

The first goal suffered by Mosta this season upset Molzahn’s boys as Senglea took full control of the match thanks mainly to their superior set up, with Tanti, Cuschieri and Bonello playing a blinder. Mosta sorely missed the presence of Theuma and Sciberras with the latter out for the rest of the season.

On 15 minutes Senglea had another good move with Tanti shooting high after a good move between Abela and Ewurun. On the half hour Senglea could have easily taken the lead. Kenneth Abela’s shot slightly missed the target and a minute later aa Ewurun scorcher hit the crossbar and from the rebound Kenneth Abela hit the upright. Before the break Kenneth Abela missed another chance after beating Steve Borg with a fine dribbling.

The second half started with Mosta obtaining the equaliser from the penalty spot when Deguara was floored by Simon Aquilina and Steve Borg converted in style.

On 57 minutes Senglea were once again in front when Bonello passed to Kenneth Abela whose nice chip hit the crossbar and from the rebound Mark Tanti made no mistake..

Mosta failed to make the much expected reaction even with the inclusion of striker Gilbert Martin, as Senglea defended in an organised manner to gather three important points.
