The Consumer and Competition Division (CCD), within the Competitiveness and Communications Ministry yesterday said that a toy product, consisting of small coloured beads, may give rise to adverse health effects if swallowed. Incidents involving children were reported.
Vomiting and unconsciousness were the main symptoms observed.
The Division is aware that the products were marketed in various countries, mainly the United States of America and Australia but also in certain EU countries, by the names “BINDEEZ” and “AQUADOTS”.
For the past weeks the CCD has been carrying out inspections in order to check whether these products are present on the Maltese market. As yet, none of these products were identified. Additionally, a global recall has been carried out by the manufacturer.
Nevertheless, consumers may have purchased or in some way obtained “BINDEEZ” and/or “AQUADOTS” without being aware of the potential hazard these products pose.
Therefore, anybody who:
• encounters such products; and/or
• needs further information,
is kindly requested to contact the Consumer and Competition Division on telephone number 2144-6251–5.
