The MAAA has accepted a proposal that a Milers’ Club branch be set up in Malta.
The proposal had been made by Peter Thompson during his recent visit.
The MAAA Council had brought Peter to Malta, about a month ago, to advise it on how to improve the level of Middle and Long Distance Running. One of Peter’s proposals was that we should have here a branch of the British Milers Club.
The main objectives of the Milers’ Club is to promote middle and long distance events on the track, especially events like the 800m, the 1500m, the Steeple Chase and naturally the Mile. There is hardly any doubt that Peter has indeed motivated a few local Coaches who soon took up this challenge.
Xandru Grech and Mario Micallef got together with Edwin Attard and have drawn up the statute for the Milers’ Club. The objectives of the Milers’ Club are not in conflict with those of other existing local clubs and one can be a member of a local club and yet member of the Milers’ Club at the same time.
Two-year calendar
Last Friday, the MAAA meeting discussed the calendar for the programme of events of the next two years. It was an interesting and useful meeting during which the Council took the opportunity of discussing possible changes in the programme for future years. A schedule of next year’s programme of events will be published in the next issue of the MAAA’s newsletter.
