Daphne Caruana Galizia, (Honour, pride and contempt for women, TMID 22 November), in her never-ending search for opportunities to denigrate the leader of the Malta Labour Party, latched on to some remark he made in another section of the press and solemnly informed us that the euro-converter we received as part of a public information campaign “does not have ‘a battery’ that you stick in and change when it runs out.”

She also quoted the parliamentary secretary for finance as saying something similar.

Well, I have news for both of them; the converter does have a battery and it can be replaced when it runs out.

So much so that the two leaflets which came with it both contain instructions on how this can be done.

One of them, in six languages, says:

“Battery replacement: The converter uses1 AG10 (alkaline) battery.”

The other, in French, is more detailed and says (my translation):

“Renewal of batteries:

• Unscrew back of apparatus.

• Insert new battery, according to polarity.

• Replace cover.

• Dispose of old batteries safely.”

Daphne ended by wondering what Dr Sant’s next PR-titled column should be called. Should he decide to refer to her techno-gaffe, he might well call it Pathetic and Ridiculous.
