Traffic Fatality

Malta Independent Saturday, 1 December 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Another fatal road accident once again took the life of a young girl.

I happened to be driving on Sunday morning in the area where the accident took place. Later I unexpectedly met the victim’s uncle who, with grief, told me about the shock his family had when they heard the news. I can imagine what sorrow the family is experiencing.

If you notice, at this stretch of road, the crash barriers are below the centre of gravity of cars, never mind a bus full of children or tourists. This type of accident is frequent abroad – buses going over for the simple reason of crash barrier height deficiencies.

The crash barrier is already repaired, but alas nobody noticed that it does not have good foundations, is low and in that spot it should be doubled in size and strength

Another young life, full of energy and dedication to help and serve others, eager and ready to serve the sick at the new hospital, is now gone. The powers that be should wake up.
