The authorities at Mater Dei Hospital are treating it as a case of suspected sabotage.

Drainage seeped through overhead pipes at Level -1, near the operating theatres on Friday. The repairmen found the pipes blocked with balled-up paper towels as well as gloves.

A photo of the seepage appeared in yesterday’s

l-orizzont (photo) but the newspaper was wrong in stating that this happened in the emergency department since the place is some distance away from the emergency section.

If not downright sabotage, this would be a case of gross negligence since paper towels and gloves should not be dumped in toilets.

Meanwhile, Mater Dei sources told this paper that discussions on the pricing strategy of the parking system may lead to more financially feasible prices soon.

Although the current prices are exactly the same as those charged in the St Luke’s Hospital car park, few were those who used it since there were ample car spaces outside the hospital. The situation is very different at Mater Dei, as it is a very big car park linked directly to the hospital and alternative parking is either in the industrial estate or across the road. Both present problems for pedestrians since crossing the roads there can be quite dangerous.
