Daphne Caruana Galizia was spot on in her article about Opus Dei. What she could have mentioned is that despite its relatively low profile Opus Dei has successfully infiltrated our “secular” government. One does not have to have a high IQ to realize that, generally speaking, present government policies are very much in line with the declared aims of Opus Dei (take the infamous Marriage Act for example). Knowing that Dr Michael Asciak is a member of Opus Dei is just the tip of the iceberg – what about the others? Members of Parliament and prospective candidates should have the decency to declare whether they are members of this group, as the electorate has a right to know.

Another five years of Nationalist rule and our secularity will be all but lost to the Catholic mullahs. Ironically, five years ago we carcaded with EU flags because we believed the EU would help improve our secularity and help transform Malta into a modern European nation. Reality has proved otherwise.

In the next five years of a Nationalist government, everything that goes against Opus Dei and Church dogma will be legislated against and where possible entrenched in the Constitution – the latest fashion trend nowadays. The entrenchments will not just include preventing a future government from legislating abortion but also divorce, as well other issues not in synch with this fanatical group’s agenda.

I don’t know how many voters are really aware of this real danger to our democracy and secularity, but I have dutifully done my bit by flagging it.
